Chiropody / Podiatry
Chiropody Introduction
Podiatrists / Chiropodists are health professionals who can assess, diagnose, treat and manage conditions of the feet and lower limbs. The work to alleviate, prevent and correct conditions of the feet.
What we do:
- Assess and treat many common problems such as verrucae, corns, calluses and toenail problems.
- Assess the function of the feet and legs and apply appropriate treatments such as insoles, stretching and strengthening exercises. Correct insoles reduce pain in mobility and exercise, enabling sporting challenges to be achieved.
- Nail surgery using local anaesthetics.
- Advice on prevention of foot problems and how to keep your feet in good health.
The term Podiatrist has been used more internationally but there is no difference between a Chiropodist and Podiatrist. Both titles are still used.
Only by registering with the Health Professions Council (HPC) can the titles Chiropodist and Podiatrist be used as these are protected titles.
The HPC ensures that its members meet their standards for training, professional skills, behaviour and health.
